Education for sustainable development

Young people must acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to foster sustainable development early and nurture them to be part of their daily practice. That is why our education for sustainable development is a pivotal strategy for all our work.

Supporting school environmental clubs

Through Eco-clubs, EGI aims to educate students and communities on environmental protection and sustainable development, influence their attitudes and behavior towards the environment and promote innovative, homegrown solutions. Members of Eco-clubs are typically between the ages of 10 and 16. They conceive and implement activities in their communities such as recycling, tree and vegetable planting, clean-up exercises and awareness campaigns.

The annual moot court competition

The West and Central Africa round of the Environmental Moot Court Competition is an annual event that is carried out by EGI in collaboration with Stetson’s Institute for Biodiversity Law and Policy. It seeks to build the capacity of undergraduate students from these countries to use international environmental law to address disputes related to access and benefit sharing of genetic resources. The competition also serves as the West Africa round of the annual International Environmental Moot Court Competition that is held annually by the Stetson’s Institute for Biodiversity Law and Policy in Florida, USA.

The resources cover topics related to environmental sciences, environmental and natural resources law and policy, international environmental law, public international law, among others.

Capacity Building

EGI provides young professionals with the opportunity to catch a glimpse into the exciting world of environmental conservation. Qualified candidates can apply for internship, resident scholars program or trainee program. Moreover, we keep more seasoned professionals abreast with rapid changes in this dynamic field by means of tailored training courses, workshops, conferences etc.
